SRINAGAR, Oct 19: The J&K Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and J&K Employees Coordination Committee (JKECC) today expressed hope that the new Government will address the issues faced by employees working in various departments.
Addressing a press conference, EJAC president Wajahat Hussain said that they are committed to collaborating constructively with the new Government to address employee grievances and ensure the seamless execution of public welfare initiatives.
He expressed optimism for the prompt resolution of employees’ genuine concerns across various departments, including Public Sector Units (PSUs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
On the occasion, the EJAC President emphasized the need to regularize daily wagers, Rehbar-e-Khel, Rehbar-e-Zirat, NHM workers, consolidated drivers of RTC, and other contractual employees.
“These workers have dedicated years of service, and their regularization is not just a demand but a necessity for justice, security and stability,” he said.
He also urged that, until the process of regularization is formalized, benefits under the recently implemented Minimum Wages Act by the Centre be extended to Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to a memorandum detailing the demands submitted last year, Wajahat reiterated EJAC’s commitment to actively pursuing the fulfillment of these demands.
Among the key priorities outlined in the charter, he stressed, is the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
“The regularization of daily wagers, the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, and the reinstatement of the OPS are crucial for promoting fairness, equity, and dignity for all employees.”
“We are eager to work in unison with the administration to translate promises into action and usher in an era of progress and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
He also urged the Government to implement the promises made in the election manifesto, stating, “A Government earns its legacy by listening to the voices of its workers.”
JKECC president Shah Fayaz called on the Government to fulfill the employee-related issues mentioned in the election manifesto.
“We demand that the long-standing issues of the employees be resolved, including an increase in the salaries of contractual employees and their regularization. There is also a need for a policy regarding the regularization of vocational trainers, MGNREGA employees, and others,” he said.
