‘Ek Aur Dronacharya’ staged at JU

JAMMU, Apr 25: Hindi Play ‘Ek Aur Dronacharya’ written by Shanker Shesh was performed by the students of Hindi Department, University of Jammu at Gen Zorawar Singh Auditorium.
Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor/ University of Jammu who was chief guest on the occasion congratulated Dept of Hindi and the Director of the play for choosing and enacting the play which is relevant to the present times. He further said that the Play dealt with the serious theme of corruption prevalent in the society and tried to draw a parallel with Guru Dronacharya and was quite successful in its efforts.
Production was marked by a realistic set designed and directed by Ifra Kak who is also the first woman theatre director of the State who participated in almost 7 National theatre festivals along with her productions.
Earlier Prof Parmasheri, Head, Dept of Hindi in her welcome address gave synpotic details of the play. The play threw light on the educational system entrapped in the web of corruption, sparing none, even the most disciplined find themselves compromising with the system.
This was a reinterpretation of the character of Drona in the light of modern educational system and it tried to bring into notice the biased decisions of Drona as a teacher, be it the Eklavya episode or being a party to the Draupadi’s eve teasing by the Kaurvas. Drona, despite being a great maestro in his field, could never impart principles to his students, just to find himself betrayed by his own disciples in the end.
The cast in the play included Sunil Sharma, Mohit Chib, Rohit Sangotra, Vivek Sangotra, Mohit Mehra, Sourav Verma, Ayaan Ali, Ravinder, Naresh Kumar, Sanjeet, Anjla Rajput, Nisha, Sanjogita Sharma. Among others Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Deepshikha Kotwal, Director, Law School, Prof N.K Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Jasbir Singh, Provost, Prof Saraf, Prof Mishra Prof Satnam Kour, Head, Dept of English,Sh. Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, Dr D L Chaudhary, Administrator, GZSAC.
