Elderly man hit by vehicle, dies; people protest

SURANKOTE, Sept 4:  The villagers from Faizlabad  today held protest and blocked road after an elderly villager was killed  in a road accident on Jammu-Poonch highway.
The deceased was identified as 75-year-old Khadam Hussain, son of Bader Din, resident of Faizlabad in district Poonch. The locals said that an unknown vehicle hit the villager when he was crossing road and the driver escaped from the spot after leaving behind the victim on the road. He was rushed to Surankote hospital where he was declared as dead. The body was kept lying there for long and no initiative was taken by health staff for postmortem.
The villagers started protest near hospital and blocked road. They alleged that no doctor was available for the postmortem. They also demanded  seizure of the  vehicle and arrest of  its driver. Later, the police traced the Tata Sumo vehicle and seized it. Tehsildar Surankote and SHO arrived there and assured action in this regard. Then the people lifted dharna.
