JAMMU, June 18: An elderly man today committed suicide by setting self on fire at his residence here in Krishna Nagar area falling under the jurisdiction of police post Canal Road.
According to a police spokesperson, the man identified as Jagdish Raj (70) son of Durga Dass, a resident of Krishna Nagar ended his life by setting self on fire after pouring kerosene oil on his body.
The incident took place at 6 am this morning in drawing room of the house when all other family members were sleeping. On getting information, police reached the spot and shifted the body to mortuary room of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, where after conducting after postmortem the body was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at concerned police station and investigations started.
