UDHAMPUR, May 17: An elderly man was mauled by bear at village Latyar in Panchari block of Udhampur district, thus triggering panic in the area.
The victim, identified as Kithu Ram (65), son of Sofi Ram of village Latyar, was attacked by the bear when he was working in his field. Some villagers came to his rescue following which the bear flew away towards forest area.
Later the injured was shifted to District Hospital Udhampur and his condition was stated to be stable.
The villagers also reported the incident to the police and Wildlife Department officials and feared threat to their cattle. They appealed the Wildlife Department officials and district administration to capture the bear or ensure that it may not return to village.
