Attendants ransack hospital

KISHTWAR, Aug 18: The irate attendants ransacked District Hospital after their patient died due to alleged non-availability of oxygen in 108 Ambulance, here today.
As per reports, an elderly person identified as Asgar Sahib Mir felt some uneasiness at home and his family members hired 108 ambulance to shift him to hospital in Jammu for treatment.
On way to hospital in Jammu, the condition of the elderly person deteriorated further just few kilometers from the District Headquarters Kishtwar and the Ambulance was rushed to District Hospital Kishtwar, where doctors declared the patient as brought dead. The patient died due to alleged non-availability of oxygen in the ambulance.
The irate attendants ransacked the District Hospital building, ambulance and also thrashed a security guard posted there.
The attendants alleged that they lost their dear one due to non-availability of oxygen in 108 Ambulance, which according to the Government is a high graded version of the other ambulances operating across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, police team rushed to the spot and controlled the situation from worsening.
Later, the attendants along with the dead body of the deceased left for home.
In the video available with the EXCELSIOR, the irate attendants were seen ransacking the District Hospital and ambulance and also thrashing a security guard after their patient died due to alleged non-availability of oxygen in 108 Ambulance.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kishtwar Dr Parvez told the Excelsior that the patient, who was suffering from multi ailments, was not brought to District Hospital Kishtwar initially.
“While shifting the patient to hospital in Jammu in 108 Ambulance, his condition deteriorated further and was then rushed to District Hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead”, he added.
“When enquired about the availability of oxygen in the ambulance, the driver informed that there was additional oxygen cylinder in the ambulance, but the attendants created scene on the spot and did not allow changing the oxygen cylinder, CMO stated.
“Action as warranted under law will be taken against those, who ransacked the Government property”, he informed.
