POONCH, Oct 21: An electrical goods shop was gutted apparently due to electric short circuit at Aalapir in Tehsil Mandi of Poonch district last night.
Official sources said that the fire erupted at about 10 PM in the night on Sunday, A person passing through the area noticed the fire flames and informed the locals there after which they started extinguishing fire at their own.
Fire and Emergency Services men, Police and other security personnel joined locals but till the fire was brought under control, electrical goods worth lakhs had been turned into ashes.
The shop owner has been identified as Mashoq Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat from Aalapir.
The Fire and Emergency Services officials said that soon after receiving information, they rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire but many goods kept in the shops had burnt, though timely action saved other shops. It is believed that fire incident happened due to electric short circuit. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
