Emergency a black chapter of history: Rajnath

AGRA (UP), June 25: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday attacked Congress and said that on this day in 1975 it murdered democracy by imposing emergency in the country and this black chapter of the history will be remembered always.
Addressing a public meeting as a part of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Maha Sampark Abhiyaan on the completion of 9 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government at Kagarol under Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha constituency, Rajnath said, “Today it’s June 25th and on this day the emergency was imposed and democracy was strangled in 1975. I also spent 16 months in jail.”
He said that Congress held a meeting in Patna to remove PM Narendra Modi and it claims that there is no democracy in the country, “If there is no democracy in the country then how did it form the government in Himachal, Rajasthan and Karnataka?.” he said.
The Defence Minister said that PM Modi has raised the prestige of India at the international level. “The country has also been empowered economically. The country, which was at the 11th position in terms of the economy in the year 2014, has now reached the fifth position,” he said.
He said that today the borders of the country are secure. “When Pakistan did a cowardly act in Uri, we crossed the border and eliminated terrorism. Work is being done for the village, the poor, the farmers and they are getting free ration,” he said.
Rajnath said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has improved the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. “Law and order is most important for the development of any state,” he said. (UNI)
