Emotions play a crucial role in our lives. Our emotions tell us what we like and what we dislike; what we want and what we don’t, and because they deliver such important messages, we need to bring awareness and acknowledgement to our feelings. Emotions make us human- make us real. Denying them makes us beasts.
But why are people becoming indifferent to the society? Why are they becoming detached? Hurt, pain, anger are all part of our emotions and are there for a reason. They are highly necessary. Pain is a part of our life, it is what makes us human, it shapes us the same as love and laughter. The problem is not our emotions, the problem is our tendency to hold on to them, the problem is that we get STUCK with the story and turn our lives into a sad story telling festival.
We tend to pay more attention to our problems and their symptoms than to all the things that are going well and right. Has anyone noticed that the more time we spend thinking about our problems , the bigger they become? So why do we choose to focus on our problems and give them most of our attention rather than on all the things that are right and beautiful just now!
Today the world is getting so stressed out with all the materialistic issues- the mind is all about MONEY- how to survive- how to raise family etc. Now-a-days people don’t live life to the fullest, they merely exist.
The point is – people still are emotional, but only as far as they themselves are concerned. But why are people becoming emotionless for the society? The negative tendencies like laziness, carelessness, negligence in our thinking and behaviour, ego- centric desires, the impurities in mind and so on are all reasons for such insane behaviour.
Don’t you know yet it is your light that lights the world!
Such changes about our behaviour are wounding our real culture. Culture is one way of relating, connecting to our world. The way we behave, the way we feel about things, the way we REACT to things.
People are becoming STOIC! They don’t care about what is going around them except what really matters to them. According to them, reacting to certain situation is totally futile. But they don’t realise that such behaviour is making the society meaningless. Let’s consider a society made up of intelligent computers that have no emotions, but still have individual goals that they are somehow motivated to pursue. What does this end onto- a self – centric society of people who mainly deal with their self interests and nothing else bothers them?
These traits are gradually leading to Alexithymia. It’s a personality construct characterised by inability to identify and describe emotions in one self . They also have difficulty in distinguishing and appreciating the emotions of others, which is thought to lead to ineffective emotional responding.
Positive or negative emotions are a vital measure of societies well being. Higher incomes may improve people’s emotional well being , but it can be done to an extent. Infact, emotions make prosperity revolve around it. Countries with highest negative emotions do get stuck with economic hardships and riots. Whereas positive emotions can definitely lead to success, happiness and rich dom.
Emotionless-impassive undemonstrative-unexpressive-apathetic-cold-hearted-heartlrss-sadistic-what is all this leading to?
But how can we help in making people realise the importance of emotions? It is persistent love and affection which can help change someone who is stone cold to someone who can be more warm hearted. Emotions are human being’ s warning system as to what is really going on around them. They are our most reliable indicators of how things are going on in our lives. If people learn to control their emotions,it will lead to more rational thinking and less conflict. Understanding emotions of oneself and others can ultimately be used for good purposes such as charity work and helping people in need.
People wake up – life without emotions is not worth living. Excess of everything is bad- being too emotional or being a stoic- both can make society he’ll.
