Empower women in armed forces: Modi

KOHLAPUR, Dec 4: Congratulating the Indian Navy for appointing the first woman commanding officer on a naval ship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasised on empowering women in the armed forces.

While addressing the gathering after unveiling a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot fort in Sindhudurg district this evening, he said that the country has set high goals and the government was making efforts to meet these goals.

He further said, “Today is the historic day of December 4. We are blessed to have the historic fort of Sindhudurg surrounded by the beautiful sea on all four sides.”

Modi then made two big announcements — one was that the royal seal of Shivaji Maharaj would be on the uniform of the Navy personnel and second, the ranks in Indian Navy would now be according to Indian tradition.

He gave his best wishes to family members of Navy personnel and paid his respects to brave men who sacrificed their lives for the country. (UNI)
