JAMMU, Nov 14: Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Sevak today stressed the need to encourage plantation of high density fruits plants in entire Doda and Kishtwar belt of Jammu region.
While addressing a large gathering of farmers, fruits growers, Panchayats and Block Development Committee members in Assar area of Doda today, the Director stressed the need to encourage the high density fruits plantation in the Chenab belt. He said the Government is providing all assistance to the farmers and they should take benefit of all the schemes launched for them.
The Director explained the farmers about the various Centrally sponsored schemes of the department and urged them to come forward, associate with the Horticulture Department and avail the incentives on different components like bore well, water harvesting tanks, drip irrigation, custom hiring centres, vermin compost units, protected cultivation, strawberry plantation, tools and implements etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status. He said that the district is having a great potential for horticulture crops which must be tapped and appealed the PRI and field functionaries to work in tandem for doubling the farmers income.
During this awareness camp for the farmers several other officers also educated farmers about the schemes and use of new techniques.
During the tour, the Director launched the fruit plantation drive by planting saplings of high density lime plants in the farmer’s field at Pyrote and Assar in the presence of Chief Horticulture Officer Doda RK Kotwal, District Horticulture Officer Shakeel Ahmed, MCC BB Pangotra, HDOs and PRI members.
As a part of this unique drive, all the districts of Jammu division started the fruits plantation today covering an area of 60 hectares. Director Agriculture Jammu K K Sharma launched this drive in district Jammu by planting a sapling of High Density citrus plant in the farmer’s field at Kadyal Brahmana, R S Pura, in presence of CHO Jammu, Sarbjeet Singh and other officers.
