This has reference to Mohinder Verma’s write-up regarding encroachment on 400 kanal prime land at Gol Gujral (DE Nov. 30,2013). Despite the issue being highlighted by Excelsior three months back also, no concrete steps have been taken by the concerned authorities to get this prime land vacated.
It is an open secret that without connivance of the concerned authorities and the politicians, who eye the vote bank in view of imminent elections, no encroachment is possible.
Politicians in position of power, pressurize the JDA authorities not to perform their legitimate duty and act strongly against the encroachers.
The officers responsible for upholding the rule of law and safeguarding Govt. property are helpless before the encroachers who have been emboldened so much by the inaction of authorities that they have started raising permanent structures instead of existing temporary one.
The residents of adjoining localities are highly grateful to the Excelsior for once again highlighting this important civic issue and reminding the authorities of their duty who must awaken from their deep slumber and take decisive action to get the encroached land vacated.
