JAMMU, July 23: Taranjit Singh Tony of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh today hit out at J&K administration for sleeping over the issue of encroachments on land chunks and flood channels leading to floods in the residential areas especially in rural hamlets.
In the meeting held here today, Tony accused the J&K administration of not doing enough to tackle water bodies and land mafia prevalent in the region as the encroachments carried out by these outlaws is leading to flooding during the monsoons.
Tony alleged that the despite frequent incidents of inundation of rain water in residential areas resulting into colossal losses of the people, the concerned Government functionaries are least bothered and have not paid any visit in the flood-affected areas including Landoi Nallah, Azad Nagar, Gadigarh, area adjoining Police Post Gadigarh, etc.
He said that the water bodies in villages have been encroached by the mafia and the Government is sleeping over the matter leaving the hapless people on the mercy of God. He raised serious concern over encroachment of a water body at village Baje Chak. He mentioned that despite the assurance given by the then DC Jammu Anshul Garg nothing has been done to retrieve the water body at village Baje Chak from unauthorized persons.
Tony mentioned that he had raised the question of encroachment of water bodies at border villages during the Capex Budget meeting held yesterday at Gandhi Nagar before the Chairman, Vice Chairman and the Deputy Commissioner Jammu wherein he was again assured necessary action against the encroachers.
The AAP leader demanded strictest possible action against the land and water body mafia and steps to vacate the encroached water bodies and land chunks to pave way for the rain water so that flooding should not happen in the low lying areas and residential houses.
