Sir,
Those who question the present political status of J&K with India, as being temporary or interim, are ignorant. They don’t understand that the union between the two is constitutionally mandated, impregnable to its very core. Article 1 of Indian Constitution clearly enunciates “India, that is Bharat is a union of states”, covering within its ambit the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. This futile exercise of terming the state ‘disputed’ or ‘occupied’ has outlived its utility now, appealing only to some.
Kashmir, historically, has never been a separate entity with it’s soul being intertwined with the Bharat as a whole. Both are bounded through a common spiritual thought, a common zephyr of love, tolerance and faith. Be it Kalhana’s Rajatarangini or Kshmendra’s Bharatamanjari, the idea of Bharat has been central to both of them. During the 5000 years of Kashmir’s history, to search for anything outside the purview of Indian thought, would be a serious faux pas.
It is important to remind those people who see Kashmir a dispute that, come what may, its identity would be protected at any cost. Sectarian differences can’t be any excuse to ask for a separate identity, especially at other’s behest. It’s like a child asking for a different identity than that of his/her mother’s. This false notion of dichotomy has to end, unless destroyed otherwise.
