JAMMU, Nov 30: The Enforcement Wing of the State Taxes Department, Jammu has achieved a remarkable feat in the ongoing financial year 2024-25 by imposing penalties amounting to Rs.1.8 crore after detecting cases of GST violations related to the movement of goods in transition.
According to an official handout rigorous enforcement measures were carried out under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Enforcement Central, Jammu, Sonu Pargal for high tax prone commodities including metal scrap, cement, granite/marble, TMT bars, and Tobacco. This significant achievement has been made possible due to the supervisory guidance of Commissioner State Taxes P.K Bhat and Namrita Dogra, Additional Commissioner.
It said during round-the-clock enforcement activities carried out in the entire Jammu district more than 2.10 lakh e-way bills were verified with an increase of about 60 percent, due to which very high compliance on part of the taxpayers/transporters is being observed. The major commodities on which penalty was realised during the current financial year included marble/granite, scrap goods, furniture products, tobacco products and bottled coconut oil for violations like movement of goods without e-way Bills,e-invoices, wrong declaration of tax rate, mismatch in quantity, use of fake GSTIN, etc.
Commissioner State Taxes appreciated the efforts of team Enforcement (Central) Jammu for breaking the nexus of the scrap dealers in Jammu district who were violating the provisions the GSTAct.
During the conduct of enforcement activities, teams of Enforcement Central Jammu led by Assistant Commissioner, Manpreet Kour, STOs Romi Jamwal, Naresh Koul, Sudhir Sharma, Sunil Gupta and Ashwani Kumar also appreciated the dealers/drivers who operate and comply with the regulations of GST Act 2017.
The team of Enforcement Central, Jammu endeavours to curb Tax evasion and enforce the provisions of GST Act to increase compliance and increase tax realization. The efforts of Enforcement Central Jammu are not only to collect penalties but also to educate and spread awareness among consumers and dealers about GST Act 2017 and Rules there under, which is appreciated by the business community. These enforcement actions underscores the Department’s commitment to foster a culture of accountability and adherence to GST regulations.
