SRINAGAR, Sept 22: The Assistant Engineer aspirants from Kashmir have expressed deep anguish and shock over the issuance of notification by Public Service Commission for Preliminary exam for Assistant Electric Engineer to be held on Oct 13, 2019.
In a meeting held here today, the engineers urged the Public Service Commission to defer the exam to December 2019 as there has been complete shutdown in the Valley and they have not been able to get any study material from online and off line modes. Most of the book shops in Valley remain closed and even internet services are snapped as a result of which they are placed at a complete disadvantage position as compared to the other parts of the State After August 5, the situation in Kashmir has not returned to normalcy and students are unable to prepare for exam.
The aspirants expected the Government to have a holistic view of the situation prevailing in the state as the atmosphere prevailing in the valley is not conducive for preparing in free and fair manner with all available resources. The unilateral decision of the Government appears to have been taken in haste and without ascertaining the ground realities. The nature of the exam is such that there has to be free flow of information so that any student can avail the facility irrespective of his location in the State.
The students appealed to the Governor Satya Pal Malik and Chairman Public Service Commission to postpone the Assistant Engineer-Electric examination and hold it in the month of December, 2019 so that students can mobilize resources and move to other parts of state to get free and fair opportunity for appearing in the competitive examination.
