SRINAGAR, July 19: An emergency meeting of the Joint Action Committee of Graduate Engineering Associations was held today at the JKMEGA office in Srinagar.
Representatives from all Associations, including JKCEGA, JKEEGA, and JKMEGA, were present. A thorough discussion took place regarding the various long-pending issues faced by the Engineering fraternity, with a special focus on Assured Career Progression (ACP).
The members expressed their appreciation for the recent government decision to form a sub- committee with a special mandate to recommend granting ACP.
The members emphasized that engineers, being the real architects of the community and instrumental in actualizing the government’s public welfare initiatives, have been neglected concerning ACP for the Engineering Gazetted cadre. Currently, only 6% of fraternity members reach the level of SE or CE, while 76% retire at the AE or AEE level despite serving for over 30 years. This is due to the pyramid-like stagnation at higher posts according to sanctioned strength.
The lack of career progression has demoralized the fraternity, and the recently formed committee offers a glimmer of hope for the final relief of ACP, which would motivate the fraternity to deliver better in public welfare.
The meeting was attended by Nasir Amin, president, JKCEGA; Firdous Ahad Bhat-president, JKMEGA; Sachin Tickoo- general secretary, JKEEGA; Mudasir Untoo- general secretary, JKCEGA; Mohammed Iqbal Malik- vice president, JKMEGA; Mudasir Nabi – Provincial secretary, JKEEGA; Ansar Ahmed Sheikh and others.
