Talking to reporters here today they termed the decision unrealistic and warned to challenge the same. They said the poor shopkeepers and members of business community are unable to pay exorbitant rent, which was enhanced without any rationale.
Terming the step as dictatorial they said it was not acceptable to shopkeepers and has generated a lot of resentment among them. They said before taking the decision the Municipal Council authorities were supposed to take the shopkeepers into confidence.
They also expressed their displeasure over the enhancement of Professional Tax from Rs 50 per shop to Rs 500 and above.
They said that the issue was already taken up with the Commissioner Urban Development Department and accused the Municipal Council Udhampur of its total failure in redressing the grievances of the people.
Pawan Khajuria strongly advocated for expansion of municipal limit from 17 to 21 wards. He said the business community in Udhampur has been at receiving end and in case the problems are not settled they will be forced launch agitation against the district administration.
