The real problem with teaching is that most people who join the profession think of teaching as a last option, to be taken only when they fail to secure other more gainful employment. Teachers who have no interest in the profession per se do not do justice to their jobs and become a drag on the students. This can change only if all political parties boldly come forward to ensure that only truly meritorious are hired as teachers. They should also ensure that the teachers are paid a decent salary and perks. Only such steps can help to improve the standard of education in our country.
