Srinagar, Apr 26: JKCNGEEU today said that the Power Development Department was jeopardizing the lives of its employees by not providing them with necessary gear while they are on work.
Its President, Umar Bhat said that every year dozens of PDD employees sacrifice their lives for the sake of the society while performing their duties, while as the department does not take care of their safety and well-being.
“Unfortunately, the PDD administration has repeatedly failed to protect the waste of these valuable and precious lives by not providing its employees with safety gear and protective tools,” he said.
He said that according to service regulations and rules of the JK Power Development Department, any employee of PDD who passes away while in the line of duty must have registered an FIR of death within 24 hours and the deceased be sent for post-mortem, to be entitled to any compensation and rehabilitation for next of the kin.
He said that the PDD was not giving much importance to its workforce on the ground. He said that Bashir Ahmad Parray a lineman who was posted at Electric Division 3rd Shireen Bagh Sub-Division Watal Kadal got electrocuted and later passed away while he was repairing an electric transmission line at Parimpora Srinagar.
“It’s very unfortunate to see an employee namely Bashir Ahmad Parray who got electrocuted and passed away on Friday while repairing a transmission line, and his family not been entitled to any benefits without an FIR of his death and post-mortem of his dead body,” he said.
He said that the rulings of PDD are such that without FIR registered and post-mortem, his Kin will not be entitled to any benefits for sacrificing his life in the service of society.
Recently an order issued by Administrative Council Decision No. 45/6/2020 Dated: 18-03-2020 (Govt. Order no. Home-92 of 2020 Dated: 20-03-2020) which entitles employees of Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guard, Civil Defense, UTDRF for immediate relief of Rs. 20 Lakh as a mark of solidarity with the family of deceased, who has passed away while being in the line of duty.
However, it’s shameful that not even a single officer from the Power Department has ever come forward or spoken against the waste of human lives in such an unfortunate way.
The JKCNGEEU demands inclusion of PDD employees and workers in the same criteria as the said departments are entitled to; since their lives are equally valuable and precious.
