Ensure security of Kashmiri students studying outside: Speaker

SRINAGAR :  Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly speaker Mubarak Gul today urged the Centre and Chief Ministers of all states to ensure safety and security of Kashmiri students studying outside colleges.    The issue was raised by main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member alleging that Kashmiri students were being harassed, thrashed and abused for watching cricket matches.
He said there are reports that a number of Kashmiri students were injured after they were attacked in Swami Parmanand College at Mohali, Punjab, when they were watching cricket match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka recently.    The PDP member alleged that in the past also Kashmiri students were targetted and even disqualified for watching cricket matches.
Kashmir has joined the secular India and everybody has freedom to watch any sports, the PDP members, who joined their colleague shouted.
They said it is a cause of concern and this should not be alowed to happen in future.
Speaker Mr Gul said I on behalf of this House urge all Chief Ministers to ensure safety and security of the Kashmiri students studying in colleges and other institutions in their states.
We also urge Union Home Minister to write to all Chief Ministers and direct them to ensure safety of Kashmiries, whether a student or businessman.
