JAMMU, Nov 22: Speaker Legislative Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta, today directed Jammu Municipal Corporation to put in extra efforts for execution of all ongoing and upcoming projects initiated for the development of the constituency.
The Speaker said this while chairing the meeting convened to review the progress on various developmental works being executed by the JMC in Gandhi Nagar constituency.
He said that considerable amounts have been sanctioned to conduct development works in the constituency. He said that a blanket amount of Rs 1.5 crore has been sanctioned to conduct minor works in all 23 wards of Gandhi Nagar constituency including works for lane, drains, repairs etc.
The Speaker also said that he will take up the matter of installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in Kunjwani Chowk with the Divisional Commissioner for necessary approvals. He said that amount of Rs 30 lakh stands sanctioned for the same out of CDF.
He also took detailed report on progress of each project. Taking note of slow progress on some works, he asked JMC to increase the pace of work to ensure time bound completion, so as to minimize hassle to local populace.
He also laid stress on ensuring that works being executed are according to prescribed norms and quality materials used in construction works.
Taking note of JMC’s pending works worth Rs 4 crore in the constituency, the Speaker directed JMC to undertake a technical feasibility of these projects and initiate works in accordance with their on-ground priority. He also directed JMC to initiate the works for construction of entry gate at Apsara road at the earliest.
The Speaker was informed that works worth Rs 12 crore for blacktopping of internal links have been sanctioned and initiated by JMC for various localities including Preet Nagar, Digiana, Nanak Nagar, Channi Himmat and others. It was further informed that works are being executed using paver machines to lay asphalt on roads to ensure its longevity.
Regarding the construction of entry gate at Apsara Road, the Speaker was informed delay in execution of work was due to design element of the project. It was further informed that architectural design for this Rs 14.95 lakh heritage gate has been finalised and works will be initiated very soon.
With regard to installation of additional lighting on Apsara road, the Speaker was informed that feasibility check for this has been conducted and plans are in final stage of approval.
He also asked JMC to construct parapets along deep drains, nallahs in the constituency.
The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner Adm Rajesh Sharma, Joint Commissioner Works Kushal Chand, FA/ CDO Neeraj Gupta besides other officers of the corporation.
