Environmentalists for creation of Tawi Development Board

JAMMU, Nov 14: Prominent citizens and environmentalists of Jammu demanded creation of Tawi Rejuvenation and Development Board comprising of  environmentalists, historians, engineers, lawyers and social activists.
This was disclosed by Chairman of Tawi Andolan and Namami Gange, Chander Mohan Sharma at a meeting here, today which was attended by prominent citizens. An indepth discussion took place on developmental, historical, cultural aspects, tourism potential and religious status of river Tawi which is revered as Suraj Putri by the masses. The participants expressed their anguish over delay being caused on implementation of flood protection schemes by Jalshakti Mission, creation of connectivity to link filthy nallas presently pouring filth, garbage and degradable material, dumping of mulba in the river bed and illegal settlements on the river at Beli Charana-Nikki Tawi area.
Sharma further said that main concern of the participants was that all the departments involved in this matter are not only lacking coordination but are working in cross purposes and in different directions. The meeting said that there is need for common authority with a focus of rejuvenation of total length of river which is approximately 177 kms.
It was decided to prepare a dossier on Tawi and to be submitted to the Government of India and LG of J&K.
A committee to prepare draft will be formulated soon. Prominents who  participated include Surinder Sharma, Balwinder Singh Bhatia both co chairmen, Brig (retd) Chib, Adv Mohinder Bhardwaj, president J&K High Court Bar Association, Prof BL Bhardwaj, Bushan Primo an ace  environmentalist, Ved Parkash Sharma , Geologist and president Brahmin Sabha, Sumer Khajuria, Historian and writer . Sheikh Zahoor Ahmed, K B Jandyal , P C Sharma former Additional Advocate General,  Ashok Gupta, Dr Prem Sharma, Narinder Bhagat president Bhagat  Sabha, Jaidev Rajwal, BJP leader and incharge SC Morcha, Rajkumar Gupta Shubh Kumar, Shri Kerni, Rajniti Sethi, Veena Bakshi,  Naresh Bala, Surinder Kour, Anita Ghandotra,  Nirmal Kanta, Kanav Sharma, Sukh Dev Singh of Guru Nanak Mission, Pt Raman Sharma and Rajesh Bhargotra.
