EPCH to organise buyer-seller meet in Chile on Nov 12

NEW DELHI, Nov 10: In a bid to create niche for Indian handcrafted items in emerging markets, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) will organise a two-day buyer- seller meet, starting November 12, at Santiago in Chile.
Besides, 31 Indian companies would display their wide range of products including home furnishings and floorings, jewellery, accessories and bags, stoles, scarves and shawls, handicrafts, Christmas decorations and gifts, the council said in a release.
“Chilean economy has been growing steadily over the last few years and demand for consumer and lifestyle products has been on the rise and Indian handicrafts form an important part of that segment,” it said.
“It is expected that the buyer-seller meet (BSM) will result in increasing the demand for Indian products and these will increase exports,” it added.
Chile is one of the Latin American countries under the focus of export promotion schemes of Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Despite the fact that Chilean market is dominated by products from China, Taiwan and Korea, India’s export of handicrafts to Chile was USD 14.8 million in 2012-13.
The EPCH is a nodal agency under the Ministry of Textiles that works for promotion of Indian handicrafts and projects India’s image abroad as a reliable supplier of high quality handicrafts. (PTI)
