Sir,
Dishonest dealings or doing wrong for money is termed as corruption. Misuse of one’s power and position also gives rise to this evil. It originates, where morality dies. It is immoral, inhuman and lacks logic and justification, not because it is totally based on greed, but it neither brings credit nor appreciation from any quarter. Stupidity lies in the fact that for whom it all is done, do not come to rescue when the death comes. When treasuries full of wealth fail to save the king what logic lies in such practices. When the coffins are always pocketless and not a penny can be carried within the last journey, accumulation of wealth through unfair means becomes meaningless. Corruption is a social political and economical blight. Pleasures and luxuries of this world are transitory and temporary. Only good deeds live for ever. Truly said, “An open door tempts even a saint”. When one finds loopholed system of governance or feels that he isn’t likely to be caught or punished, starts doing it. Since corruption begins from the top and percolates to the lower rungs of administration, chance of being caught or punished also become somewhat dim.
With exceptions, all sail in the same boat. It is not a need but insatiable greed, one possesses, these days. It is tragedy that laws can’t be fairly implemented until saturated with ethics and morality. So need for such values can’t be overemphasised. A need for introduction of such values in text books is imperatively felt. Schools and colleges where youngesters are taught to become healthy citizens, need to be used for cultivation of such values.
