ANKARA, Dec 25: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that the minimum wage in the country had been increased by 30% to 22,104 Turkish lira (about $630).
“In 2025, the net minimum wage will be 22,104 Turkish lira with a 30% increase. Let this be beneficial for our country and its people,” Erdogan said on X.
Last year, the government raised the minimum wage by 49% to 17,002 Turkish lira.
However, the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions, which has called for a minimum wage of 29,583 lira, did not participate in a recent meeting on the issue.
The 30% increase in the minimum wage has sparked strong criticism from opposition groups in Turkey and is widely discussed on social media.
In November, the annual inflation rate in Turkey amounted to 47.1%.
