Erratic power supply badly hit trade, industry in Valley: KCCI

JAMMU, Oct 12: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has alleged that erratic electricity supply has badly affected the trade and industry in Kashmir Valley.
KCCI president, Javed Ahmed Tenga in a press statement today said that Kashmir Chamber has been keenly observing and assessing the critically erratic electric supply situation occurring in Kashmir over the past several weeks, which has been badly effecting the trade/business, the local industry and households in general.
He pointed out that fruit worth crores has been stored in Horticulture and CA stores in Valley and long power cuts will destroy the stored fruit and cause great loss to the growers and dealers.
Tenga said the Chamber expresses its grave concern and disappointment with the contradictory policies of the KPDCL with regard to regular power supply to the consumers, as the PDD while starting the process of installation of Smart Meters promised uninterrupted power supply to the consumers, which never proved on the ground. The PDD is continuously failing in meeting the aspirations of the consumers and is hiding behind pretext one or the other.
KCCI president said a week ago, the KPDCL had announced that it had procured 400 MWs of power from UP and was in negotiation for purchasing another 150 MWs from the Centre to ease out of the situation. But nothing has appeared since then and the Department is coming out with a winter power curtailment schedule.
The KCCI has requested the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to appoint a fact finding committee to pin point the faulty links that lead to the miseries of the consumers particularly the senior citizens, the sick people, students, health, education, industries, CA stores, tourism sector, traders etc on account of non-availability of uninterrupted power supply through the ensuing harsh winters.
