One can call the number 112 with a fixed or mobile phone, the service is free of cost everywhere across the country/
Police in a hand-out said that an SOS alert can be activated through the “112-Mobile app” anytime “when you feel your safety or the safety of another is in imminent danger.”
The exact location of the person in distress is forwarded to the Control Room and the location of the victim is displayed on the GIS map of the Call-taker, police said.
In case of any SOS alert or emergency assistance from Police, Fire or Health departments the police asked to  Dial 112 from Phone, Send SMS to 112, press power button on Smartphone 3 times in quick succession to activate panic call, log-on to ERSS-JK website https://jk.erss.in/ and place your SOS request, or email SOS alert to Emergency Response System on dial-112@jkpolice.gov.in.
The service is also available in the shape of a mobile application named 112 India mobile app which is available on Google Playstore and Apple Store and can be used to activate the panic call.
Further information on the ERSS is available on https://jk.erss.in/faq.html.
Notably, 112 is a globally recognized single emergency number, adopted by most of the European countries, commonwealth nations and mapped to emergency numbers in USA and Canada, while as most of the handsets are manufactured with pre-programmed 112 as an emergency number to be dialled with a single keypress. TRAI has allotted this number for single emergency number in India in May 2015.
