SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Chairperson, J&K State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights (JKSCPW&CR) Vasundhara Pathak Masoodi has written separate letters to Chief Justice of J&K High Court and Director General of Prisons inviting their attention towards setting-up of crèches in both the wings of J&K High Court at capital cities, District Courts and in different jails of the J&K.
Vasundhara Masoodi observed that at the time of hearing of the cases most of the female litigants are accompanied by their self nursed babies and during hearing the mothers feel inconvenient to nurse their babies in the court rooms. Besides, babies do not feel comfortable in the court rooms during course of hearing which at times cause trouble to litigants as well as the court proceedings.
Likewise, many female advocates are forced to give up their practice as there is no facility for them to take care of their small children while they are in the courts for proceeding with their cases, she observed.
Further writing to Director General, Prisons J&K for setting-up of crèches in prisons of the State, Vasundhara Masoodi stated that the aim for establishing crèches inside the prisons focus on health and better living conditions of women and their children lodged in different jails.
