Estates employees observe strike

JAMMU, Oct 24: Estates employees today went on strike and held a protest demonstration against the higher authorities of the department for adopting delaying tactics in considering their demands.
A large number of Estates employees under the leadership of Prem Singh Baba and Yash Pal Sharma, coordinators, Coordination Committee of Estates Department employees, assembled in front of the office of Executive Engineer, Estates Division, Jammu, and shouted slogans against the higher authorities of the department.
Addressing the protesting employees, the leaders of Coordination Committee threatened to go on indefinite strike from October 27, 2014 if the authorities of the department did not consider their demands like re-organization of Estates Department, regularization of daily rated workers, holding of DPC or type test instead of computer test, release of wages in favour of casual and need base workers, etc.
The other demands of the employees are release of orders of time bound promotion and its arrears due with effect from 2006 to 2012, provision of two and a half day’s additional pay, issuance of appointment orders under SRO-43, construction of building for housing the office of Deputy Director, Estates near the office of the Executive Engineer, Estates Division, Jammu, implementation of transfer policy and immediate transfer of the engineers and clerical cadre employees sitting in the department since decades.
Prominent among those who addressed the employees include Rash Paul, Puran Chand, Tilak Raj, Subhash Chander, Sagar Massi, Ravi Sharma and others.
