Every MLA given chance to raise public issues: Speaker

JAMMU, Apr 5: Thanking all members for giving full support for smooth conduct of current budget session, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul said that he made every effort to give chance to every member to raise issues of public importance during Question Hour, Zero Hour, Debates, Discussions and other business of the House.
This he said at the conclusion of budget session here this afternoon.
Appreciating the members for their cooperation, the Speaker hoped that in future the people’s representatives would highlight genuine issue of people with same zeal. He said that the Ministers put forth the Government’s view point on every important issue to satisfaction of members.
Regarding the absence of main opposition party in the House, the Speaker said he could not understand why they have taken this decision when he tried to give them maximum time in every business schedule to put forth their view point. He said PDP took 4 hours and 29 minutes only on those days in which they attended the House.
He said after their (PDP) decision of boycott, he convened a Business Advisory Committee meeting immediately and appealed them to attend the House. He said even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, and some members including M. Y Tarigami, Hakim Mohammad Yasin, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta and Harshdev Singh appealed them to end the boycott of the session.
He said that now people who they represent would decide whether their decision to boycott the session was right or wrong.
Congratulating the Speaker for conducting the smooth Budget Session, Minister for Finance Abdul Rahim Rather said that every member has been given chance to took part in the day to day business of the House. He said that the august House is the democratic platform for the members to raise the issues of people for which they have been elected.
The Minister said that it has become possible only when all stakeholders gave their full cooperation honestly and hailed the Chief Secretary and his team for remaining present continuously in official gallery particularly during the Question Hour.
Saying that media acts as a bridge between People and Government, Rather said that they deliver their responsibility professionally and hoped they would work with same zeal for the development of the State.
Terming the boycott of PDP in budget session an unfortunate, the Minister said that he does not understand why they took this big decision and deprived their people whom they represent.
Earlier, the members who took part in the discussion thanked the Speaker for conducting current session smoothly. They also thanked Administration,  Assembly Secretariat other concerned departments, media and security for the cooperation during the budget session.  They include Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Harshdev Singh, M. Y Tarigami, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, A. G. Malik, Jagdish Raj Spolia, G. M Saroori, Er. Rashid.
