COIMBATORE: All policies and projects of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government are tailor-made for job creation, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said today.
Be it road, rail, port or airport projects, all generated thousands of jobs to lakhs of youth across the country, Javadekar said, while highlighting the achievements during the two-year rule of the government at a function here.
He claimed that only seven kilometres of road was laid per day during UPA regime, while it was 22 km per day in the last two years, providing job opportunities to thousands and this will be increased to 30 km per day soon.
Similarly, modernisation of ports under Sagarmala project and importance to irrigation had provided more jobs, he said.
Under the skill development programme, 40 lakh youths were skilled and all were given jobs, which is one of the biggest achievements of the BJP government, Javadekar said.
Dwelling on various welfare measures implemented for the benefit of poor, he said government has fixed the minimum wages for contract labourers at Rs 10,000 per month, provided loans to poor for setting up start-ups and also provided five crore gas connections.
While Congress was giving loans to those like Vijay Mallya, the NDA government had disbursed loans worth Rs 1.30 lakh crore to three crore youths, which will be increased to Rs 1.80 lakh crore benefiting four crore youths in the next year, he assured.
As far as Tamil Nadu was concerned, Javadekar, who was in charge for the recent assembly elections, claimed the people of the state did not want freebies, but needed jobs so that they can lead a life of dignity.
Detailing on the need for a function to highlight the achievements, BJP All India General Secretary P Muralidhar Rao said this was to create a reach out programme to communicate the success of the government to the people. (AGENCIES)
