7 women succumb to virus, 823 test +ve

JAMMU, May 30: A retired IAS officer, mother of a senior doctor posted as the Head of Department (HoD), female Health worker and retired Inspector of Police were among 20 persons who died of COVID-19 and related complications while 823 persons tested positive in Jammu region today.
Seven women were among the dead while Jammu district accounted for maximum 12 COVID casualties followed by three in Rajouri, two each Udhampur and Ramban and one in Samba district.
Dr Ravi Kulbhushan Jerath, a retired IAS officer of 1980 batch of Jammu and Kashmir cadre hailing from Gandhi Nagar Jammu died of COVID-19 at Narayana Hospital Katra this morning. He had served as Vigilance Commissioner, Commissioner/Secretary General Administration Department, Financial Commissioner Revenue, Principal Secretary Health and Social Welfare Department besides holding other important positions.
Number of serving and retired All India Services officers of Jammu and Kashmir have condoled the death of Jerath, who was 69.
Mother of a Head of Department of the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua died of COVID-19 related ailments in the GMC Jammu this evening. The woman hailed from Shastri Nagar and was in critical condition in the GMC Jammu for past few days.
A 62-year-old retired Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police succumbed to the virus in the GMC Jammu this evening. He happened to be the brother-in-law of BJP leader and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Corporator Baldev Singh Billawaria.
Kaneez Fatima, a 48-year-old Female Multi Purpose Health Worker (FMPHW), who hailed from Kandi and was posted at Community Health Centre (CHC) Kandi breathed her last in the GMC Rajouri. She was in forefront of COVID management and, in the process, got infected.
An 83-year-old woman from Lakkar Mandi Janipura in Jammu died of Coronavirus in the GMC Jammu today. Her daughter-in-law had succumbed to the virus few days back.
Five deaths were reported from Bishnah, Arnia and RS Pura today. They include 55-year-old and 80-year-old men from Bishnah, 85-year-old man and 65-year-old woman from RS Pura and 65-year-old man from Arnia.
Other deaths in Jammu district were reported from Residency Road, Sarwal, Muthi, Miran Sahib, Bohri Talab Tillo and Gandhi Nagar while two other deaths in Rajouri district occurred at Swari Kandi and Beripattan. Two deaths in Udhampur district took place at Basani Mand Tikri and Jib Thathi while twin deaths of Ramban were recorded at Gool and Banihal. Lone death in Samba district took place at Bari Brahmana.
Twenty fatalities have taken COVID deaths in Jammu region to 1888 including 1055 in Jammu district, 183 Rajouri, 130 Kathua, 122 Udhampur, 111 Samba, 88 Doda, 78 Poonch, 51 Ramban, 36 Reasi and 34 in Kishtwar district.
Among 823 positive cases in the region today, 339 were reported from Jammu district, 92 Rajouri, 77 Doda, 69 Poonch, 66 Ramban, 65 Udhampur, 42 Reasi, 32 Kathua, 25 Samba and 16 in Kishtwar district.
Recoveries continued to surge with 1454 persons being declared as negative today after treatment. The maximum recoveries of 385 were reported from Jammu district, 371 Rajouri, 211 Samba, 165 Udhampur, 143 Kathua, 76 Reasi, 75 Doda, 17 Ramban and 11 in Poonch district.
Jammu region now has 1,11,202 Corona cases. Among them, 14357 are active positives while 94957 have recovered from the virus and there have been 1888 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 138 new Coronavirus positive cases including 123 in Leh and 15 in Kargil district.
Fresh cases have taken the UT’s Corona count to 18448. Of them, 1603 are active positives as 16658 have been treated for the virus,
UT’s death toll stood at 187—136 in Leh and 51 in Kargil.
