4 women among 5 die of Corona in Jammu, 151 test +ve in Govt offices

JAMMU, Aug 31: Four women were among five persons who died of COVID-19 in Jammu region today where 252 persons reported positive including BJP leader and former Minister Sunil Sharma, a Chief Engineer and an AEE, one BDO who happens to be the KAS officer, five from High Court and District Courts at Janipura, one of them a Judicial Officer, a Prosecution Officer and two Bench Secretaries, 15 employees in the office of DC Kathua, two of them officers, a doctor couple and their daughter in Udhampur, three J&K Bank officials posted at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, seven more employees of Jaypee Company and three employees of District Hospital Kishtwar, a Registrar and three other doctors.

Of five Corona deaths today, four were reported from Jammu district and one in Doda.
A 46-year-old woman from Bakshi Nagar, presently putting up at Rajpura Mangotrian, who was suffering from Community Acquired Pneumonia and other ailments besides being COVID positives died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu this afternoon where she was admitted yesterday.
Another woman, aged 45, hailing from Sector 7 Upper Paloura near Janipura who had co-morbidities and was positive for COVID-19, died in the GMC Jammu this morning, GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said. She too was admitted in the hospital yesterday.
A 65-year-old woman from Gangyal who too had Community Acquired Pneumonia and other ailments and was positive for pathogen died in the GMC Jammu early today. She had also been admitted to the hospital yesterday.
A 38-year-old man from Mirpur Khour who was admitted to the GMC Jammu on August 18 and was co-morbid as well as Corona positive died this afternoon.
An 87-year-old woman from Chinta Bhaderwah in Doda district who was brought to the GMC Doda on August 28 suffering from ailments and being COVID positive died today.
Today’s deaths have taken Corona toll in the Jammu region to 68, the highest being 45 in Jammu district followed by five each in Rajouri and Doda districts, four Poonch, three Kathua, two each in Udhampur and Samba district and one each in Ramban and Kishtwar districts.
As per the official document, 139 persons reported positive for the virus in Jammu district.
During Rapid Antigen Testing in Government offices in Jammu district today, 151 persons tested positive, majority being the Government employees. However, a Government official clarified that some local persons, who also approached the Health teams in the offices, were also tested for the virus and the total figure of positives include civilians too.
Twenty three persons were tested positive in Agriculture Department Complex including staff of Animal Husbandry, Command offices etc, 16 at Udhyog Bhawan, 10 at Exhibition Ground, 12 each in Education Directorate and Mubarak Mandi, eight in Tourism Department and JKTDC, seven each in Government Ranbir Press and ICDS & Social Welfare Department offices, five each in LIC office and Estates Department, three each in Floriculture & Bank complex and Hospitality and Protocol Department and one in Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan office. Other positive cases were reported from Kot Bhalwal, Akhnoor, Pallanwalla, Arnia, Bishnah and RS Pura, both inside offices as well as locals.
BJP leader and former Minister Sunil Sharma tested positive for the virus during RAT in his Gandhi Nagar house. He had come in contact with BJP leaders Ashok Koul and Vibodh Gupta, who had tested positive in Srinagar yesterday. Though Sharma’s father-in-law passed away yesterday, he didn’t attend his last rites as a precautionary measure being a contact of positive persons and waited for his test and report. He has been isolated at his Gandhi Nagar residence.
An AEE of the Power Development Department also tested positive during RAT in Akhnoor tehsil.
Five persons tested positive in the High Court and District Courts complex at Janipura. They include a female Judicial Officer, two Bench Secretaries-one each in High Court and District Court, one Prosecution Officer and a driver of District Court.
A Chief Engineer tested positive for the virus in Reasi where he had gone to his house today while a Block Development Officer (BDO) who happens to be a KAS officer and is posted in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district was also infected by pathogen. The BDO had attended meeting with senior officers of Poonch district earlier. Three employees of Jammu and Kashmir Bank posted at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan branch today tested positive.
Fifteen employees including an Accounts Officer and Statistical Officer in the office of Deputy Commissioner Kathua reported COVID positive today.
DC Kathua OP Bhagat, who tested negative, told the Excelsior that the positive officials have been isolated and the DC office will remain closed for public for two to three days till sanitization.
Another Registrar in Surgery Department of the GMC Jammu and two more doctors, six personnel from BSF Camp Paloura, eight CRPF jawans from 33 battalion, seven from 84 battalion Chatha, a couple from Talab Tillo, two of family from Paloura, three persons from Channi Himmat, another PSO of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Sharma and cook of an SSP posted in Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur, who was putting up at Roop Nagar residence of the police official were among the positives of Jammu district.
Five members of a family from Omara Morh, four of family near Chopra Shop, a doctor couple and their daughter from Bharat Nagar, six jawans of 137 battalion CRPF and five and seven years old children from Supply Morh were among 27 persons who tested Corona positive in Udhampur district today, District Magistrate Dr Piyush Singla said.
Seven more employees of Jaypee Company Kishtwar were today tested positive for COVID-19, Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara said. With this, 27 employees of the company have so far tested positive while many others are yet to be tested, he added. Three more staffers of District Hospital Kishtwar and two more members of pre-wedding party at Bhandari Mohalla in Kishtwar today also reported positive for the virus.
Of 18 positives in Rajouri district, six members of a family are from Nowshera, three family members each from Ward No. 3 and Gujjar Mandi, a female doctor of Ward No. 12 and a staffer of the GMC Rajouri among others.
With today’s positives, Jammu region’s Corona tally has gone up to 8781. Of them, 2192 were active positive as 6523 patients have been treated and discharged while there have been 68 casualties. As many as 110 Corona patients were today discharged after testing negative.
Forty three new Corona cases were today reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh including 34 in Leh and nine in Kargil.
