Ex MLAs, SSP among 26 file papers in North Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Sept 9: At least 26 candidates filed nomination papers from North Kashmir for 16 Assembly seats where voting will be held next month.

Those who filed nomination papers are People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Shabir Ahmad Mir from Gulmarg Assembly constituency, PDP leader Mohammad Afzal Lone from Trehgam, National Conference leader Javaid Ahmad Mirchal from Karnah, PDP leader Firdous Ahmad Mir from Karnah, PDP leader Owais Ahmad Bhat from Gulmarg, JDU leader Rehana Begum from Wagoora-Kreeri, Bharat Jodo Party Mohammad Aslam Chopan from Bandipora, former legislator Yasir Reshas Independent candidate from Sonawari, NC leader Nazir Ahmad Khan from from Gurez (ST), NC leader and former SSP Javaid Reyaz Bedar from Pattan, NC leader Qaisar Jamshid Lone from Lolab and NC leader and former legislator Javed Ahmad Dar from Rafiabad.
The seats going to polls in North Kashmir in third phase are Karnah, Trehgam, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara, Langate, Sopore, Rafiabad, Uri, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Wagoora-Kreeri, Pattan, Sonawari, Bandipora and Gurez (ST).
According to the notification, the last date for filing nominations for this phase is September 12, while the scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on September 13. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 17. The polling will be held on Oct 1.
