JAMMU, Oct 24: Former MLC and spokesperson of J&K BJP Girdhari Lal Raina has urged Education Minister Sakina Itoo not to rush decisions on changing the academic session in Kashmir without thoroughly evaluating the issue.
He expressed concern over the push to restore the November session, calling arguments like “harsh winter” secondary. Raina highlighted that the 2022 shift to synchronize with the national academic calendar was a beneficial reform and criticized those opposing it.He referenced historical reforms in Jammu and Kashmir’s education system, stressing that since 1947, policies have aligned with national guidelines for the overall good of students.
Raina emphasized that vested interests should not influence decisions and pointed to the success of CBSE-affiliated schools in Kashmir, which continue to be the top choice for parents even in remote areas. The long-term benefit of students should be the only priority, he concluded, urging a balanced approach based on merit, not political considerations.
