JAMMU, Jan 10: Former Minister of State (MoS) and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh has warned Hurriyat Conference and some Valley based leaders not to mislead people on the West Pakistani refugees’ issue.
In a press statement issued here today, Mr Singh who is himself is refugee, warned Hurriyat Conference leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani, senior NC leader Ali Mohd Sagar and MLA Langate Er Rashid and some other Valley based leaders not to mislead the people of the State on West Pakistani refugees’ issue.
Describing these Kashmir based leaders as anti-refugees (West Pakistan/ PoJK/ Chhmab), Mr Singh said that refugees have been suffering for the last many decades due to Opposition and negative role of Kashmir centric leaders and political parties. He strongly condemned the alleged communal stance of these Kashmiri leaders and asked the refugees to launch a mass movement against such parties and leaders.
Mr Singh alleged that NC and PDP have also been exposed being anti-refugee. Surprisingly, Ali Mohd Sagar has claimed that Joint Parliamentary Committee report on citizenship rights to West Pakistani refugees was unacceptable. It exposes the communal mindset of some leaders and the Kashmir based parties.
The Congress leader said that BJP led Modi Government has also not done good to the refugees by sending back one time settlement package. The double stand of the BJP has also been exposed. He said that Congress always fought for the rights of refugees and will continue to do so.
Mr Singh warned that refugees will not sit silent if they were not settled in Jammu permanently and accorded citizenship rights. He appealed all the groups and refugee bodies to get united and give appropriate reply to communal minded leaders and parties.
