LEH, June 23: Former Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal met with Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of School Education, Ministry of Education.
They discussed Ladakh’s education system and the need for ongoing support from the Ministry. JTN submitted a written request for the swift release of funds under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme to ensure Bhoti, Hindi and other teachers are paid salaries on time. He also asked for more Bhoti teachers to be appointed in Ladakh.
JTN expressed gratitude for the Government of India’s support in enhancing Ladakh’s education system. He noted that 219 Bhoti Language Teacher posts have been approved for Leh District and 27 for Kargil District under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan. However, these teachers have not yet received their salaries. JTN requested for the immediate release of their overdue wages and an increase in their pay, highlighting the high cost of living in Ladakh.
JTN also requested for the appointment of Career Counselors in all 31 blocks of Leh and Kargil Districts to provide students with proper guidance for their education and careers. Additionally, he emphasized the need for more residential schools, particularly girls’ hostels, in remote areas of Kargil District. He commended the efforts and achievements of the Department of School Education in UT Ladakh, supported by LAHDCs.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Education assured full support to UT Ladakh in improving and upgrading the education system. Tsering Paldan, the Director, Department of School Education of UT Ladakh was also present in the meeting.
