LEH, Aug 31: Former Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namyal called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
Namyal, while welcoming the creation of five additional districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh, highlighted that this achievement is a significant milestone by the Union Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The former MP emphasized that these new districts, created after 45 years, are aimed at bringing governance closer to the people of Ladakh, ensuring better accessibility and administration at the grassroots level.
The LG stated that the creation of the five additional districts in Ladakh is a significant step forward for the benefit of the people of Ladakh, ensuring that governance and administrative services are more accessible to the local population.
Meanwhile, a delegation from ICICI Bank led by Zonal Head, J&K and Ladakh, Sandeep Sharma called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Secretary to the LG, Dr Laltinkhuma Franklin, were also present in the meeting.
Sharma informed the LG that ICICI Bank is actively providing financial services in Ladakh, with four branches currently operational in the region. He highlighted that 90% of the banks in Ladakh are locals and expressed the bank’s desire to open more branches in the area.
He also informed that the Bank has launched a Fraud Prevention Campaign in local languages, broadcasted through Doordarshan and All India Radio, Leh. He further informed that ICICI Bank in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India, Jammu Branch is planning to organize a joint fraud awareness session in Leh. He proposed the introduction of a financial awareness program specifically for Government employees in Ladakh.
The LG directed Dr Laltinkhuma Franklin to coordinate a meeting with the Advisor to the LG to discuss the expansion of bank branches and employment opportunities with ICICI Bank authorities.
