Ex-MP Salaria passes away

JAMMU, July 20: Former Member Parliament and Ex-Advocate General, Shabir Ahmed Salaria passed away after brief illness here today.
He was 83 and is survived by his wife Ex- MLA Begum Zubaida Salaria and sons, Suleman Salaria- Inspector General of Police, Advocate Usman Salaria Ex- general secretary Jammu Bar Council and Dr Haroon Salaria Neurosurgeon and two daughters.
Born on December 25, 1934, Late Salaria graduated from Prince of Wales College, Srinagar. He did his MA LLB from Aligarh Muslim University and joined legal profession in year 1957 and later, was enrolled as Advocate of J&K High Court. He started practice at Srinagar and in 1958, he shifted to Rajouri and in 1976 he started his practice in Jammu. He was enrolled in Supreme Court of India on records as Advocate in 1980.
In 1983, he was appointed as Advocate General of Jammu Kashmir High Court. Later, he joined NC and in 1984 he became MP from Jammu -Poonch Lok Sabha seat. He was also elected Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha as NC candidate in 1989.
His mortal remains will be laid to rest at Gujjar Nagar Graveyard, Jammu on July 21( Friday) at 3.30 PM.
