SRINAGAR: A former panch of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was today killed by miscreants in south Kashmir, where three persons were shot dead by unidentified gunmen since August 19.
Official sources said that panic gripped in Shangas area in Anantnag district when the body of ex-panch, Shabir Ahmad (45), was found in his under construction house this morning.
The body, afflicted with sharp edged wounds, was recovered by police, they said, adding a case was registered and investigation taken up in this regard.
Shabir is the second worker of PDP killed by unidentified persons during the past two days. Last night, the gunmen killed a cable operator (owner) Hilal Ahmad Malik near district hospital, Shopian.
The gunmen later managed to escape under the cover of darkness before security forces could arrive there, sources said.
However, a police spokesperson said that militants involved in the killing of Malik had been identified and a massive hunt was launched to nab them. He said the militants are Zubair Ahmad Turray and Umar Nazir Malik.
Yesterday, a bullet riddled body of a teenager, Gowhar Ahmad Dar, was recovered from an orchard at Batyari Mohalla in Shopian.
