Ex-Sarpanch among 4 arrested with stolen batteries

DODA, May 19: Police arrested four persons including an ex-Sarpanch along with stolen batteries.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda Abdul Qayoom informed that Police Station Doda received many complaints regarding theft of vehicles batteries during night from different parts of Doda town and accordingly a team was constituted headed by Incharge Police Post District Hospital Doda ASI Ashwani Kumar under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Doda Jaswant Singh.
SSP added that on the basis of some technical and human leads, the team managed to arrest 4 suspects from Doda town who during interrogation confessed their involvement.
“On their disclosures, the team recovered 33 stolen vehicles batteries from a scrap dealers shop of Qamar Din who is also an Ex-Sarpanch”, SSP said, adding that arrested persons were identified as Mohd Irfan, son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Baboor, Aftab Ahmed, son of Mohd Shafi of Paryote, Ex-Sarpanch Qamar Din, son of Mohd Yousaf of Pull Doda (Scrap dealer) and Tanveer Ahmed, son of Qamar Din of Pull Doda (Scrap dealer).
SSP informed that during initial investigation, it came to fore that during early morning hours between 3:30 AM to 6 AM, the arrested persons used to break the glass of vehicle, steal the batteries and then sell the same to Ex-Sarpanch-cum-Scrap dealer Qamar Din.
It is pertinent to mention here that Ex-Sarpanch Qamar Din was also booked for same offences in the year 2017.
SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom said that further legal formalities and investigation into the matter is going on.
