JAMMU, Aug 14:  The ex-servicemen of defence services today urged the State Government to remove Value Added Tax (VAT) from canteen items.
The demand was raised by Ex-servicemen Cell (J&K) in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Col (Retd) Jangvir Singh Sambyal.
They urged the Government to remove VAT from canteen items, as they alleged that it is a special incentive to the defence personnel and nowhere in the whole country VAT is charged on Army canteen items.
The ex-servicemen also demanded that canteen services be provided to ex-servicemen to their doorsteps for better public relations and coordination.
They also urged the State Government to pass an ordinance that no service charges wil be charged by the placement agencies from the ex-servicemen deployed by them as security guard in industries and other public sectors.
