AKHNOOR, Oct 26: Ex-servicemen from Akhnoor and Khour area in a meeting held today discussed the local burning issues and demands of the retired Defence personnel of the area.
A meeting in this connection was held under the chairmanship of Navy veteran Er. Lakhbir Singh Sohal here today. The members during the meeting congratulated the new popular government led by Omar Abdullah and hoped that new government will address the issues of ex-servicemen and the general public of the J&K.
Chairman of the Committee educated the ex-servicemen about the latest rule position with regard to different schemes. The Ex-servicemen also expressed their concern over the regular traffic jams in Akhnoor town and alleged that there are no Traffic police cops in the town to control the traffic. The road widening process has been stopped by the R&B authorities and it has created regular and long traffic jams. The SDM and DC Jammu are also silent on the issue. Either the road be widened or an outer road link be created with the construction of new bridge over Chenab near Partap Canal head to ease out the traffic flow in Akhnoor area.
He also expressed serious concern over the increasing terror attacks in J&K and said it may impact the newly elected Government. He said the motive of target killings could be to create terror among the public. He asked the ex-servicemen and the public to remain vigilant.
The Chairman condemned the role of Rajasthan and Odisha police to humiliate and detention of ex-servicemen. He said the Agniveer Scheme has brought much miseries and future uncertainty about the career of youth. He also referred to OROP, widow pension, MSP dues and sought intervention of the higher authorities in the release.
