JAMMU, Nov 17: An ex-Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) was murdered while two others were left injured by a man who attacked them with a sharp edged weapon in Khour area of Jammu today.
According to Police sources, the ex-ZEO identified as Babu Ram son of Sita Ram, resident of Narayana village in Khour tehsil, was attacked with a sharp edged weapon (Parthi) by a person namely Ashok Kumar son of Munshi Ram of the same village near the former’s residence this afternoon when he was returning from his farms.
Sources said seeing the man assaulting Babu Ram, a woman of the village who was coming behind him and a nearby shopkeeper came to his rescue but the accused also attacked them with sharp edged weapon. “Leaving the three grievously injured, the accused fled from the spot,” they added.
All the three injured persons were shifted to Community Health Centre (CHC) Khour hospital where Babu Ram succumbed to his injuries while the other two injured persons namely Sita Devi and Vaneet Kumar were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu after providing an initial treatment.
When contacted, SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma said that acting swiftly, the police team of Khour Police Station led by SHO Rattan Singh Rana has arrested the accused from a cow shed near his residence and the weapon of offence seized.
The officer said that in this connection, a case has been registered under relevant Sections and investigation is underway to know the motive behind the assault. “The body of the deceased has been handed over to his family members after autopsy conducted by a board of doctors in CHC Khour,” he added.
