KATHUA, July 22: District Mineral Officer of Geology and Mining Department today seized an excavator involved in illegal mining in Basantpur Tredwa Nallah, here.
Acting on the complaint, lodged by a local person of Basantpur regarding illegal excavation of earth in Tredwa for the last many days, the officials of Mining Department along with Police personnel visited the spot and seized the machinery involved in the illegal mining.
Although the miners present there showed some documents regarding mining in the form of evidence, but they were not sufficient in order to justify mining and excavation in said nallahs, said an official.
The seized excavator was handed over to officers of Police Post Basantpur till further legal action as per the rules of Geology and Mining Department.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of SSP Kathua RC Kotwal.
