Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 27: Dr Ritesh Gupta, Dental Surgeon, Department of Health and Family Welfare Jammu, has been honoured with the prestigious Indian Dental Association (IDA) National Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry, in a ceremony held at Jio World Centre, Mumbai. The award was presented by General of Belarus, Aliaksandr Matsukou (chief guest for the event) in the presence of Dr Ashok Dhoble (Secretary General, IDA), Dr Raveendranath M (president IDA) and Atul Modi (Chairman Prevest DenPro). The Charaka Awards are presented by the Indian Dental Association (IDA) and PrevestDenPro to recognize dentists who excel in clinical innovation, research, patient care, and community involvement. The awards are considered the biggest for clinical excellence in dentistry. “It is a privilege to receive this award. This recognition motivates me to continue striving for excellence,” said Dr Ritesh Gupta on receiving the award.

SRINAGAR, OCT 27: Srinagar Smart City Ltd received the prestigious ‘Award of Excellence in Urban Transport’ at the 17th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Awards, distinguishing it as the ‘City with the Best Non-Motorized Transport System.’

Dr Owais Ahmed, CEO Srinagar Smart City received the award at extensive ceremony held at Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

This accolade, presented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, celebrates the efforts of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) in fostering a sustainable environment that prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists in Srinagar City.

Dr Owais emphasized that this award underscores SSCL’s successful initiatives, which include a significant upgrade of 100 kilometers of key roadways to include dedicated paths for walking and cycling, enhanced lighting, and improved public amenities. These developments not only support local tourism but also spur economic growth within the Srinagar City.

He said major thoroughfares such as Maulana-Azad Road and Residency Road have been revitalized, alongside prominent public spaces like Srinagar Square (Lal Chowk) and the Jhelum Riverfront, which now boast vibrant plazas, cafes, and promenades.

In a further push towards eco-friendly transport, SSCL has launched a Public Bicycle System featuring 1,000 bicycles and 200 electric bikes distributed across 180 stations. This initiative encourages sustainable transportation, contributing to a more livable and accessible Srinagar, reflected in increased foot traffic and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

The comprehensive mobility strategy adopted by SSCL emphasizes walkability, environmental quality, and social cohesion, establishing Srinagar as a benchmark for sustainable urban development.

This recognition from UMI reaffirms SSCL’s ongoing commitment to creating a future-ready, people-centered urban transport system, enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents.
