Excessive use of boosters leads to water scarcity in Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 12: The Kondebal locality in Rainwari area of Srinagar is facing an acute shortage of water supply because of excessive usage of water boosters.
The residents complained about scarcity of drinking water owing to excessive use of boosters on main water lines and asked authorities to take tough action against the offenders. “The excessive use of boosters has badly affected the water supply of several families due to use of water pumps,” a local said, continuing that people are using water boosters in connivance with the PHE officials.
The locals said that they have frequently raised the issue with the local linemen, but nothing has happened so far. “We receive water only during power cuts which assert the fact that people use boosters. We realize it, but authorities are acting as mute spectators,” another local said.
The locals have asked the concerned department to launch a special drive in the locality to bring the offenders to book. “We were already facing water scarcity because of dry weather and the use of boosters have made matters worse for us. The government need to act tough on the culprits to give us relief,” a local said.
Assistant Executive Engineer PHE, Zubair Ahmad told Excelsior that they would look into the matter and take strong action against violators. “I will send my task force tomorrow who will warn the offenders.  We will monitor them for few days and if they continue to violate the law, we will seize their motors,” he said.
