Excise Deptt seizes 6500 kgs polythene

KATHUA, Nov 5: Excise Department seized 6500 kilograms of polythene at Toll Post Lakhanpur.
As per official spokespersons, the sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur subjected a truck bearing registration number JK02AT-6217 to checking. As per the documents, the vehicle was carrying 180 bags of potatoes consigned by M/s Raj Kumar and Sons, Delhi to M/s Sanjay Sharma and Co, Narwal, Jammu.
However, on physical checking, it was found loaded with 52 bags of polythene (6500 kgs) and 128 bags of potatoes. The evaders tried to import banned polythene by importing the same with potatoes which is a non-taxable item. The vehicle has been handed over to the Pollution Control Board, for further action.
Meanwhile, the sleuths of Excise Department also foiled tax evasion attempt by seizing 5300 kilograms of scrap from a truck, which was moving outside the State via Pattan Barrian through river Ravi. The evader adopted the said route in order to avoid payment of Toll and VAT. A fine amounting to Rs 43010 was imposed and recovered under J&K Levy of Tolls Act. Besides, Rs 63,000 on account of VAT was also recovered by the Commercial Taxes department.
The whole operation was conducted by the Excise and Taxation Officers Joginder Singh Jasrotia, Virinder Singh Billowria and GL Sharma, Excise Inspectors Adarsh Sharma, Harish Sharma and Gopal Kumar, Sub-Inspectors Ikhlaq Ahmad and Excise Guards Riaz Ahmad, Hardeep Singh and Shakeel Ahmad under the supervision of Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Excise Commissioner.
