Excise sleuths destroy 21 kanal poppy crop, 595 kg lahaan

JAMMU, June 10: About 595 kg of lahaan was destroyed today by Excise Department in Jammu and Rajouri districts while illicit poppy crop on 21 kanals 15 marlas of land was destroyed in district Budgam.
Keeping up continuous efforts towards the eradication of illegal bootlegging, a team of Excise Department, on the directions of the Excise Commissioner, J&K, Rajesh Kumar Shavan and under the supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Jammu, Amarjeet Singh, today conducted series of raids in the Excise sub range Bishnah and RS Pura.
During the course of raids, 530 kg of lahaan was destroyed on the spot. The Excise team was led by ETO City Range South Jammu Nipun Tickoo and Inspectora Ashwini Sharma and Mukul, Sub Inspector Rohit Singh Chib and Guard Ajay Sharma.
Likewise, the Excise team Rajouri led by ETO Rajouri Poonch Virindar Singh Pawar along with Inspector Mohd Pervaiz, Sub Inspector Anil Kumar Sharma and Excise staff conducted a series of raids at villages Kallar, Agrati, Sawni of tehsil Rajouri.
During the raids, one person namely Inder Singh son of Prem Singh, resident of Sawni was arrested and booked under section 48 of J&K Excise Act as about 2 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from his house. Besides this, about 60 kg of lahaan and 5 litres of illicit liquor were recovered from state land and were destroyed on spot.
Meanwhile, under the supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Kashmir Tahir Ajaz, Excise officials of Central Excise Range Srinagar- Ganderbal-Budgam conducted destruction drive of illicit Poppy on 21 kanals 15 marlas of land in village Raangar of tehsil Chadoora in district Budgam.
The destruction was conducted after identification of land by Revenue Department, in presence of revenue officials and in coordination with district administration.
